Gold for Jess Stretton

_91289267_w1_archery_reutersMany congratulations to Jess Stretton, the 16 year old Hemel Hempstead archer, who has won a Gold medal at the Paralympic Games in Rio.  Jess beat her UK compatriot Jo Firth 137 to 124 in the final match.  A win by 13 points! Fantastic.  Vicky Jenkins joined her UK colleagues to take Bronze.

Jess has been the leading UK archer in the Women W1 category all year and this is a wonderful end to 2016 for her.

Triumph For Hertfordshire Archers at the U.K. Masters

Neil Bridgewater and David Wayman two of Hinxworth Archery Club’s top compound archers were invited to take part in the U.K. Masters Championships at Lilleshall National Sports Centre near Telford over the weekend of the 6th/7th June.

140 of the U.K.’s highest ranked archers were chosen to compete in what is regarded as Britain’s premier Archery Event including our own Neil Bridgewater the reigning 2014 compound champion and clubmate David Wayman. The compound category for men consisted of the top 35 gentlemen compound archers in the U.K.

At the end of the first day Neil led the field in top spot eliminating all of his opponents in the head to head. David finished in a very accomplished 6th place making Hinxworth A.C. the only club with both members in the top 10.

The final on Sunday 7th June was the Individual Championship with all participants shooting 36 arrows at each distance 90m/70m/50m and 30m a total of 144 arrows each. Neil again emerged as the clear winner and double gold medallist. David finished with a respectable 11th place overall in his very first U.K. Masters tournament.

Well done Gentlemen.

Indoor Team Championships 2013

Just as we have now come to expect from this tournament, the cakes were plentiful and very tasty, the hot drinks welcome in the chilly hall and the results ready and waiting before the raffle was finished. In fact we had to wait for some of the archers to finish putting their equipment away before we could start, so many thanks to the organiser Carol Clark and her band of helpers. References can be given if any of them are looking for a job next month.

We were lucky to have the County President able to stay until the 3rd session assembly because it meant that Alex North from Abbey Bowmen was able to receive his Purple award from her. This is the 4th of these badges to be presented to juniors in the county and Alex not only has been shooting well during the year at target but has also claimed no less than four National Clout records to go with his award.

So what of the rest of the county? well despite a growing number of archers registered in clubs through Hertfordshire, there has not been an increase in attendance at this shoot, which although good,  110 archers entered, is only about 1 in 5 come on the rest of you.

More detail to follow later today.
