Calling all archers in Hertfordshire

Have you entered the County Championships ? If not then please don’t leave it until the last minute, it doesn’t help the organiser when that happens and as we are hosting the Herts v Beds match this year there will be a good few spaces taken by the Beds team. Don’t find yourself in a position where you are unable to shoot in your own County championships because you left it too late and no spaces were available.

And for everyone who is currently trying for selection to the Herts team at this match, Junior and Senior, make sure all relevant scores have been submitted before midnight on 11th June. That is the cut off date the selectors will be working to. Make sure a declaration form has been submitted, if unsure then submit another one! For those of you who think you are not good enough, why not submit your scores anyway, some of you may be pleasantly surprised.

Come on Hertfordshire Archers let’s make an effort this year and get those entry forms in before the deadline.

Thank you

Phil

Herts v Middx 2016

It was mixed fortunes today as Hertfordshire played host to the annual indoor match against Middlesex. With the reminder that Middlesex had wrenched the recurve trophy away from Hertfordshire last year there was much to fight for, in the end it was not a good day for the county archers as they succumbed to a more consistent  team and despite trying to dazzle them with new county shirts Hertfordshire could only manage second place in this category. The longbow archers however, knew how to play it cool and stuck to their task with grit and determination (so I am told) and retained their trophy by a clear 12 points, well done you. Compounds, like the recurves had a job on their hands and despite sporadic flashes of genius and constant changing of faces could also only manage second place. So it was left up to the juniors to balance the trophy tally, with all four juniors over the 500 mark they managed the biggest winning margin over their opponents.

Well done to all archers, with sincere thanks to Jacky Toon for her work as Team manager, to Kevin Thurlow and Tracey Jackson our judges and Barry and Barbara Anscombe and their helpers for putting on a well run match. I for one have already started practicing for next year, that Recurve trophy belongs over a Hertfordshire mantelpiece.
